MIKE EVANS BIO

Mike Evans is a sculptor who works in both bronze and cast glass.  His work reflects the process of turning his personal stories, memories and emotions into something tangible.  Each creation is quite literally, an answer to this process.

Mike Evans has been casting in bronze since 1988.  His formal education as a sculptor began with Tasso Pitsiri, Bronze Sculptor and Mold Maker, at his Oklahoma studio.  They worked together from 1985 to 1992 and during this time Evans honed his skills as a Realist Figurative Sculptor, as well as mold maker and lost wax caster.  He continued his training with Internationally Celebrated, Master Sculptor Martine Vaugel.  He spent the summers of 1992 and 1993 working closely with her at her teaching studio in France.  There he continued to perfect his skills as a Realist Figurative Sculptor, with a focus on the female figure and portrait.  After moving to Santa Fe in 2003, he continued working in his own studio in the Second Street area.

With a long history of bronze casting and a great familiarity with lost wax casting, it was a natural progression for Evans to move in to cast glass.  He began his exploration with glass casting in 2009.  Since then, he has transitioned to working almost exclusively in cast glass.  At this point, Evans is involved in much of the glass casting process.  In his studio, he makes his own molds and also casts and chases his own wax.  In the future, he imagines he will be casting his own glass as well.

Evans has shown at several galleries, both in Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He participated in three different group shows at the IAO Gallery in Oklahoma City.  In New Mexico, he has had exclusive representation as a bronze sculptor at the Farrell-Fischoff Gallery in Santa Fe and New Paradigm in Taos.  He has also been represented by Houshang Gallery of Santa Fe.  His work can also be found in many private collections in both New Mexico and Oklahoma.
